Suit up for some fun!
Well, a life vest would probably be a safer lake attire, but you get the idea. The best thing about time on the water is that the suits you do end up wearing don't need dry cleaning!

The Water's Going To Be EPIC! Powell up 31' ~ Mead up 35'
The May reports are coming in and the snow is STILL falling. The snowpack is now at 187.21% of normal for May 19 and the runoff forecast into the watershed keeps getting better and better.
Check out the dark blue line at the top. That's this year!
Experts in the field are predicting that the runoff will bring significant and sustained rises in the water levels of both Lake Mead and Lake Powell this season.

Temple Bar Marina, on the quieter Arizona side of the lake is also getting ready for the new water. "It's gonna be good all around," marina staff are boasting, "there are more beaches and different beaches, we're excited."

Crab Boil on the Beach!
Cook up some delicious fun on the beach this summer with your own crab boil. The "fixins" are simple and most of the time frozen until you "boil em" (see the ingredients list in the Top-5 article).
These hearty houseboaters out of Antelope Point Marina on Lake Powell threw everything into the pot, boiled it all up together with some lemons and pre mixed seasonings, dumped the water, and then tossed it all out on the table (disposable plastic table covers).
It was everyone for themselves after that with a fun filled feast of hand to hand ~ finger lickin' good eating that included warm rolls, melted butter, cocktail sauce, and lots of paper towels as napkins.
Can you picture your crew enjoying this meal on the beach?
After licking their fingers clean, they grabbed their beverages and just rolled up the table cloths with the shells and mess all inside (clean up took 5 minutes).
What little food was left over (before rolling up the table covers) was put in metal bowls and placed in the fridge over night. They set it all out at breakfast with cocktail sauce the next morning, along with the regular breakfast food (suprisingly popular).
Too Much Fun!

"Who says that banks aren't friendly? If you're low on cash they still use soft wording like 'insufficient funds' or 'decline.' I think 'decline' is especially nice, but could be nicer if they would say 'decline with regrets' but now I'm being picky. If I was in charge of a bank I'd change my messaging to say 'you're broke!'" |
The Top-5 Crab Boil Ingredients |
Well, the crab boil is a long time tradition.
Some use the stove top in the houseboat kitchen, some use the grill as a heat source and some take along equipment to do it on the beach. Add rolls and your favorite beverages and you and your crew should be good to go for a great evening together. Here are our Top-5 ingredients for a Crab Boil on the beach: Seafood
Frozen crab and shrimp.
Vegetables
Corn on the cob (cut in half works best) and sliced potato halves.
Meat
A red meat of some kind seems to be traditional and adds some contrast to the seafood. Some prefer brats (any left from breakfast?), and others prefer polish kielbasa or hot dogs to add to the mix.
Seasoning/Sauces
The easy way to get that real southern flavor is to pick up a packet of crab boil seasoning at your local grocery store with everything in it. Lemons cut in half and squeezed into the water before starting the boil add a nice edge too. Take along some butter to melt and cocktail sauce and you are ready to go.
Preparations
Disposable plastic table cloths, paper towels, paper towels, and more paper towels are always useful. Bring along some masking tape to secure the edges of the table covers just in case it gets breezy on your beach.
Have fun! |
