From Jet Ski to Marry Me
People are getting more creative in planning their nuptials, gathering family and friends to join in their special day, and sharing what they love
with those they love. Some wed midflight
during a freefall sky dive while
others don wet suits and SCUBA gear
and get hitched underwater.
Lake Mead's Callville Bay Marina
offers another option as The
Matrimonial Mecca for those who
fall in love while enjoying activities
on the water. (Seriously, what could be better than that!)
One California family that lives in
high desert country enjoyed their
visits to Lake Mead so much that
when it came time for Tom and
Marna Contino's son, Marcus, to get
married, he and bride-to-be Jillian
suggested a lake wedding.
"We don't do things in a normal fashion," says Marna. "We had over 100 people
who made the 4-hour drive to be on hand to witness the fantastic sunrise at the
morning nuptials held on the marina's grassy knoll. The setting was beautiful
with the panoramic view of the water behind the decorated wedding arch, and
from the reception that followed in the lounge overlooking the lake."
The family-atmosphere wedding didn't involve a fancy rehearsal dinner, so the
group opted for a large order of pizzas and hot wings delivered from a Nevada
pizza parlor. After the knot had been tied and the formal reception completed,
the entire wedding party boarded their houseboats and headed for a nearby
beach to party in celebration of the new couple.
"The people at Callville were just like family," said the mother of the groom. "They
were so accommodating in our special requests --- above and beyond what they
told us they would do --- and everything they promised, they came through with.
Truly a wonderful event with a lifetime of memories for the family scrapbook."
